Summer in Beijing

The weather is smoggy and humid here and things have been relatively quiet, thanks in no small part to my inconsistent supply of electricity and internet.  I’ve finished a couple of new pieces- a setting of Kendall A.’s poem Reverberations, to be premiered by Becca and Ilya Finkelshteyn in Cincinnati this autumn, and a new work for solo pipa for my good friend Yan XiaYu, who will be performing it around Beijing in the coming months.  I recently returned from a few weeks of travel in Southern China, which was refreshing, if exhausting at times, and am now starting the next batch of projects. In preparation for Cincinnati Soundbox’s first concert, I’ll also be posting a series of interviews on our website starting in mid-September with the composers for our November show.
