The summer has been flying by! In late June/early July, I visited Taiwan on a grant from the University of Cincinnati Research Council. I spent my time there meeting with traditional instrumentalists, going to concerts, and learning about Taiwanese culture. (I also bought an erhu and am proceeding to make my neighbors hate me… but it’s research, really*).
The next few weeks are jam-packed. I have a new string quartet underway for the Ava Quartet, to be premiered this November, and am aiming to finish that up by early September. There are a few other exciting projects happening simultaneously/in the immediate future, including an erhu solo*, a piece for voice and percussion for Colleen Phelps, and a vocalise for Mezzo-Soprano Paulina Villarreal. Off to work!
